The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is gearing up for its sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16), taking place from 2 to 13 December 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With the theme “Our Land. Our Future,” COP16 marks the 30th anniversary of the UNCCD and will be the largest UN land conference to date. This event is the first UNCCD COP to be hosted in the Middle East and North Africa region, a region that has been deeply impacted by desertification, land degradation, and drought. COP16 is set to be a pivotal moment in global efforts to accelerate land restoration and drought resilience.
