The looming July 31 deadline for the mandatory linkage of National Identification Numbers (NINs) to SIM cards has precipitated a crisis in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. In a bid to enforce compliance, telecommunications giants MTN, Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile have embarked on a mass disconnection of lines without verified NINs, leaving millions of subscribers in the lurch.
